First cabin version of the Boeing 777-200ER (772) V1
  • KLM B777-200s are quite old, though a refurbishment is due to all by the end of 2016. Business Class seats are not comfortable. Some single lateral seats would be mandatory, for many a passenger are very impolite.
  • In general, it felt so cramped since KLM has 10 abreast on their B777 instead of 9 abreast. For flights around 2 hours, it was still OK. I couldn't imagine for long haul since they use this for SIN-AMS route as well. Submitted by SeatGuru User on 2018/06/04 for Seat 11D.

First version of Boeing 777-200 operated by KLM is the most common among 2 versions.

This airplane may transport 318 passengers in three classes: business, economy comfort and economy class.

KLM selected the B/E Aerospace Diamond Seats for the 777 World Business Class (the seat is now known as the Collins Aerospace Diamond seat, since B/E became part of the Rockwell Collins group). The Boeing 777 Freighter features capacity never seen before on a twin-engined freighter. With a maximum payload of 102 tonnes, a total capacity of 37 pallets and a maindeck that can take 3-metre pallets, the Boeing 777 Freighter can carry virtually every type of freight.

Business class offers 35 angle-flat seats that have 170 degree recline. These seats are located in 5 rows and have 2-3-2 configuration.

The noise from the galleys and lavatories located in front may cause discomfort to passengers of the seats of the 1st row. Lack of floor storage during take-off and landing is another disadvantage of these seats.

Location of the lavatory and galleys behind may represent a problem to passengers of the seats of the 5th row. Missing windows make the seats 5A and 5J bad seats.

Economy Comfort class consists of 34 seats. Passengers of the seats of the 10th row will take advantage of extra legroom. Among disadvantages: proximity of the lavatory and galley, reduced width and lack of floor storage during take-off and landing. For passengers traveling with babies the seats 10DEF offer bassinets.

As there are no seats in front the seats 11C and 11G offer extra legroom. These seats are considered the best seats of the area. However, these seats are often bumped by other passengers and crew members passing by. As the tray tables are in the armrests the width of these seats is reduced a little. No floor storage during take-off and landing may also cause inconvenience.

Missing windows make the seats 14A and 14J bas seats.

249 seats of the economy class are divided into 2 sections.

All C, D and G seats of the economy class have restricted legroom and storage space under the seats due to presence of entertainment equipment boxes here.

First sections consists of 14 rows: 13 of which have 3-3-3 configuration and the last row of the section contains 5 seats.

The main disadvantage of the seats 21A and 21J are missing windows.

Location of the lavatories behind and no recline make the seats 27ABC bad seats. The under seat storage and legroom of the seat 27C is limited because of entertainment equipment box.

As there is no seat behind the seat 27G is often bumped by passengers and crew members passing by. Because of entertainment equipment the under seat leg and storage room of this seat are limited.

The seats of the 28th row are not reclining and are located in high traffic area because of lavatories visited by passengers. Emergency equipment stored in the overhead bins of the seats 28E and 28Flimits the storage space. The seats 28HJ may be ideal for passengers traveling with a partner.

Behind the exit row the second section of economy class seats is located. This section consists of 15 rows of seats: 13 of them have 3-3-3 configuration, first row contains 3 seats and the last row of seats has 2-3-2 configuration.

Passengers of the seats 30DEF will feel comfortable thanks to extra space for their legs. For passengers travelling with babies these seats offer bassinets. However, these seats are less padded, have reduced width because the tray tables and TV screens are in the armrests making them immovable, have no floor storage during take-off and landing and are located close to the lavatories.

KLM designates the seats 31ABC and 31GHJ as preferred seats to reserve which an extra fee should be paid. These seats offer extra space for passengers’ legs. However, other passengers tend to congregate in the area of these seats while waiting to visit lavatories thus causing discomfort to passengers. These seats are less padded and are narrower than standard. Passengers can get cold during the flight by the exits. Lack of floor storage during take-off and landing is another disadvantage of these seats. In addition missing windows make the seats 31A and 31J bad seats.

The best seats in this section are considered the seats 40AB and 40HJ that are at an angle due to curvature of the airplane’s body that provides extra legroom especially for passengers of the seats 40A and 40J.

Due to awkward configuration transition of the seats from 3 to 2 the seats 43 C and 43G are often bumped by other passengers passing by.

The noise from the galleys and lavatories located behind makes the seats of the last 44th row bad seats. Overhead bins of the seats 44AB and 44HJ are used by crew members to store their luggage and equipment. Due to awkward configuration transition of the seats from 3 to 2 these seats are misaligned a little with the seat back TV screens. Despite all these disadvantages an extra fee may be charge from passengers travelling with a partner as these are the only two seats placed next to each other.

Second cabin version of the Boeing 777-200ER (772) V2

This version of Boeing 777-200 offers 316 seats of three classes: business, economy comfort and economy.

The seats of World business class are located in the first 6 rows. 5 rows have 2-2-2 configuration and 1 row has 2-2 configuration.

The only disadvantage of the seats 1G and 1HK is location of the lavatories in front.

The noise from the galleys and lavatory located behind will cause discomfort to passengers of the seats of the 5th row. Missing window makes the seat 5A bad seat.

The last row of business class seats is located behind the exit row. Close location of the galleys and lavatory may represent a problem to passengers of the seats of the 6th row.

Behind this row 40 seats of economy comfort class are located. These seats have 3-4-3 configuration. All these seats are standard only the seats of the 10th row have no floor storage during take-off and landing and the seats 11A and 11K are considered bad seats due to missing windows.

242 seats of the economy class are located in two sections. Most of the seats have 3-4-3 configuration.

All D seats of the economy class have limited space for passengers’ legs due to presence of entertainment equipment under these seats.

First section consists of 12 rows. Missing windows is the main disadvantage of the seats 18A and 18K. Close location of the lavatories will cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 25C, 25DEFG and of the seats of the 26th row. Another disadvantage of the seats 25DEFG, 26ABC and 26HJK is limited recline.

The second section of economy class seats contains 13 rows. Passengers of the seats 31ABC, 31HJK and 32DEFG will feel comfortable thanks to extra legroom. However, other passengers tend to gather in the area of these seats while waiting to use lavatories thus causing discomfort.

Due to missing seat behind the seat 32D is often bumped by service carts and other passengers passing by.

Location of the galleys and lavatory behind will cause inconvenience to passengers of the seats 43ABC, 43E, 43G, 43HJK and 44EFG. Limited recline makes the seats 43ABC, 43HJK and 44EFG bad seats.

My Saudia Airlines trip from Jeddah took me to Jakarta. Whenever KLM returns to Amsterdam, the airline does a short stop-over in Kuala Lumpur. The flight between those 2 sectors only takes 90 minutes for just $150 in Business Class. Since I haven't flown KLM yet it was a great opportunity to review their Premium Product on the Boeing 777.

If you don't want to read the review (I know, too many words) you can just lean back and enjoy my video report which gives you a detailed inside of what it's like to travel on KLM's Business Class.

The KLM Business Class Seat

KLM's 777-200ER offers 34 seats in Business Class in a 2-2-2 configuration. A very similar product to Lufthansa or Qatar Airways A320. The seat goes complete flat, offers limited storage space and has a personal entertainment screen. Both an USB slot and Power sockets are available at each seat. However the window seats don't have direct aisle access.

Amazing Crew and Service

Klm 777 Business Class

The crew on this flight was a little older but extremely friendly and hard working. No attitude, super passionate and they took huge pride in what they were doing. It was really refreshing because usually European and American Airlines totally fail at looking after their customers most of the time.

The seat was easy to operate and in very good shape. A very comfortable product and I'm sure the sleeping quality on those must be good. I was lucky that the cabin was half empty during the flight.

I was offered a few welcome drinks and the crew was busy engaging with the passengers and trying to get to know them during most of the time. Also menu's were distributed before take off. The captain would keep us posted during the entire flight, on delays and weather conditions.

Note: One of the cabin crew told me about an initiative she runs with other crew members to look after stray dogs and other animals. Please visit her website and offer your support if you can - > www.wingsforanimals.org

Great Entertainment but No WiFi

The entertainment didn't leave anything to be desired as well as the noise-cancelling headphones which offered a great sound quality. Unfortunately KLM doesn't offer WiFi on this flight. The only airplane in KLM's fleet who does is the new 787 Dreamliner.

After we landed in Malaysia the crew invited me to the flight deck, which was a really nice gesture.

Good Food and Lovely Traditional Tableware

A small meal was also served during the 90 minute flight. You took choose between the Beef Steak or the classic Chicken option. I tried the beef and it was alright. However, all kind of beverages were already available, including the Flying Dutchmen KLM signature cocktail.

The crew only has a basic coffee machine onboard which limiteds the choice but the crew said she was gonna try very hard to make my coffee look like a cappuccino. Wow, such an effort!

Klm B777 Business Class

The amenity kit however was very basic but it has the essentials for an overnight journey. KLM also has a tradition of giving out those cute, little China houses filled with Gin. I even got 2 as well haha...they really spoilt me.

Klm 777 Economy

KLM Business Class Bottomline:

The flight was fairly short but an absolute highlight. The Cabin Crew made the difference on this flight. Passionate and outstanding service. The seat is nice and very well maintained, especially if nobody is sitting next to you. Also the entertainment was more than enough and the headphones of decent quality. I had also no complaints about the food. I'd totally fly KLM again and I'm sure that I wouldn't be disappointed if I do so.
